While the corporate media has been singing the praises of Brad Wall and his rightwing government ever since the Saskatchewan Party first came to power in 2007, the reality is that Wall and his conservative regime have done very little to help everyday Saskatchewanians over the last nine years. And the Saskatchewan Party platform suggests that voters can expect more of the same if the Wall government is re-elected on April 4th.

After campaigning on a pledge to create thousands of jobs, internships, and apprenticeships for young people as part of their youth jobs strategy, the federal Liberals are now considering regulations that would permit federally regulated workplaces to hire unpaid interns for up to a year.

As part of its just-released 2016 budget, the Ontario government is taking bold action to make college and university more affordable for students from lower and middle income families. Under the new Ontario Student Grant (OSG) program, 90 percent of college students from low-income families will receive more than $2,768 for their education, the average amount of college tuition in Ontario. As well, 70 per cent of university students will get grants in excess of the average university tuition, which currently stands at $6,160 per year.

New research from ACORN Canada, a national non-profit organization of low- and moderate-income families, reveals that the high cost of home internet is forcing some Canadians to reduce their spending on essential items like food in order to pay for internet service. The lack of affordable access to high-speed home internet is also serving as a major barrier to low-income earners' participation and success in the new digital economy.
